Myths about Job Searching

1.              Apply everywhere possible  When searching for a job, applying everywhere possible is hardly a good idea. Employers can spot a generic mass application in seconds and are not impressed. They prefer it much more when an application is specifically catered to their vacant position. It shows that the candidate has spent some time researching about their company and the job role and is keen to demonstrate how well he matches it.            An elaborately designed resume will increase chances of getting    a job Your resume should be visibly appealing and clearly readable when it is copied, faxed or emailed.   A resume with multiple fonts and designs may stand out in a pile of resumes but not necessarily land you a great job. Resume should only be a single page document  There is no such rule that the resume should be a single page document. Recruite...

Should I do MBA first or start working?

Image
After completing graduation, many students who wish to pursue higher education in business  management face a dilemma. They are unsure whether to get a job and gather valuable work experience or directly pursue a degree in management.  Studies seem to suggest that the Indian corporate world seems to prefer it if candidates have two to three years of industry experience before taking up the challenge of a management degree. Even recruiters seem to pick candidates who have prior work exposure. While applying for colleges the weight of one’s cv increases a great deal if you can show work experience and that clearly puts you in a more advantageous position over other candidates. Besides, to gain the skills required to improve your employability it is always better to opt for gaining work experience before going for MBA. One gathers practical knowledge while working and can relate better with the real life scenarios when he later studies for the management degree. It is alwa...

Image
The alarm clock was ringing consistently. Sumit woke up with a start, put in on snooze and pulled the pillow over his head. Ten minutes later it rang again. This time around he sat up on the bed. Realization suddenly dawned upon him. It was D Day. His interview was scheduled at 10.30 a.m. at one of the top  MNC s. In spite of having proper qualification and adequate knowledge, nervousness and anxiety gripped him as this was his first interview. He had made extensive preparation by making lists of probable questions that he may have to face and rehearsing suitable answers for them standing in front of a mirror. Time had come to display those skills. He got up from the bed and headed for the shower determined to prove himself. Sumit knew that he had to appear professional and well groomed to make a favorable impression at the interview. Thus a shave was also needed. He also knew that he could never appear in an interview in a pair of jeans and a T shirt. However, comi...
